Daniel Monaghan – Intern at Arquer Diagnostics

Daniel Monaghan recently graduated from Teeside University with a degree in Biological Science. At 22 years old, he began his internship with Arquer Diagnostics in November of last year. In his own words, Dan wanted to work with Arquer because “their research and development in cancer diagnostics is so meaningful and important.” He says, without a doubt, that his time with us has definitely confirmed that this is the right career path for him, and it is his hope that the experience he has gained will allow him to now move forward in finding similar work within the industry, possibly in another field of life sciences.

University is an amazing experience and a huge learning curve that is necessary for anyone looking to pursue a career in life sciences, but there is only so much you can learn and experience in the classroom. Of the things Dan highlighted from his experience at Arquer, he is particularly grateful for the lab-based work time that he has been able to experience, which was never a plausible option at university. This work-based training is sure to aid his employability within the sector and influence the outcome of his job applications in the future. He says – “The team are so understanding, and it’s a really enjoyable place to work.” We are thrilled that Dan has loved working with the Arquer Diagnostics team and it has been a pleasure to welcome him over the past year.
